Viton or FKM is a well-known high-performance rubber that has excellent resistance to high temperature, ozone, weather, oxygen, mineral oil, fuels, hydraulic fluids, aromatics, and many organic solvents and chemicals.
Performs Well In: Hydrocarbon Automotive, Aviation Fluid; Reciprocating Engine Lubricating Oils (SE-SF Grade); Aliphatic Hydrocarbon Process Fluids; Aromatic Hydrocarbon Process Fluids; Aqueous Fluids (Water, Steam, Mineral Acids)
Silicone has excellent heat, ozone, and corona resistance and has good dielectric stability and resistance to many oils, chemicals, and solvents. Silicone possesses the best flexible properties at low temperatures.
Performs Well In: Engine and transmission oil (mineral oils); Diluted salt solution; Moderate water; Dry heat; Ozone and weather resistance
Nitrile (also known as Buna, Buna-N, or NBR) is one of the most common sealing elastomers due to its resistance to petroleum-based fuels and lubricants and its relatively low price. Nitrile elastomers are copolymers of acrylonitrile and butadiene.
Performs Well In: Petroleum-based oils and fuels; Aliphatic hydrocarbons; Vegetable oils; Silicone oils and greases; Ethylene glycol; Dilute acids; Water up to 100ºC (121ºF)
EPDM is a terpolymer (made up of three monomers) with ethylene, propylene, and diene. This material possesses an excellent resistance to ozone, sunlight, and weathering. It has very good flexibility at low temperatures, good chemical resistance (many dilute acids and alkalis as well as polar solvents), and good electrical insulation properties.
Performs Well In: Alcohols; Ketones; Dilute acids and alkalis; Silicone oils and greases; Steam up to 204.4ºC (400ºF); Water; Phosphate ester based hydraulic fluids; Ozone, aging, and weathering
